Construction Framing Model
A Tribute to Prince
In this project we worked in groups to build a house to a ½” = 1’ scale, applying the framing knowledge we have gained. It also helped us build teamwork, project management, and scheduling skills along the way.
My team had an extra bit of fun and decided the house was being built for a witch who’s favourite colour was purple, since the project was assigned around the time of Halloween. I then built the house in SketchUp and rendered it in Lumion.
Myself and three of my classmates were tasked with designing and building a chair for the legendary artist, Prince, to a scale of 3” = 1’
After each member submitted their designs, mine had the honour of being chosen and we got to work! The chair is designed to reflect Prince’s naturally introverted side and his on-stage persona. With nods to songs such as Raspberry Beret and Purple Rain, Prince’s iconic symbol, and types of materials and embossments he wore on stage. Down to the shape of the leg, modeled after the shape of the heel on the heeled boots he had commissioned nearly 3,000 times from his preferred designer.

What was meant to be a quick and fun crafting day with friends, turned into my first stab at creating a figure modelled from clay. Using an aluminum foil skeleton, this took much longer than I would like to admit to finish.
I learned so much from this fun ‘day of crafting’ and am looking forward to doing more of this type of project in my spare time.
